A second layer of dimensional lumber is always fastened to the top plates of the erected. Measure and mark the top plate of the walls on either side of your structure running in line with the proposed roof s ridge every 24 inches. The ceiling joists are attached to the top plate and tie the walls of a structure or a room together and supports the ceiling lining of the structure or room. The hanging beam reduces the span of the ceiling joists.
Roof slope is the amount of change in height as a ration of horizontal distance traveled usually expressed as inches of rise per foot of horizontal run or cm of rise per m of horizontal run. In order to get the right amount of 2 by 6 lumber to use as your roof joists you will need to measure the top wall plate. Add the length of the overhang beyond this mark and mark it. Another way when the roof is too large for that or there are not four corners is to use the 3 4 5 method shown here to make sure the corners are at a perfect 90 degrees.
Where trussed rafter roofs are not subject to uplift a minimum of two 4 5mm x 100mm galvanized round wire nails skew nailed one on each side of the trussed rafter or truss clips fixed in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions are acceptable.
