Roof Verge Undercloak Detail
Bargeboards and in some cases gable end brickwork are prone to deviation in their length just like the fascia boards at the eaves and this can transfer itself to the verge detail when installing the undercloak.

Carry underlay over full width of gable wall and turn down 50mm behind cloaks. This is due to roof slopes being described whilst looking at the roof slope not the gable end. The one on the right is a left hand verge and the one on the left is a right hand verge.

Undercloak needs to lap under the end of the tile batten by no more than 50mm leaving the outer 50 75mm for mortar and a 25 50mm gap between the end of. This will provide an effective underlayer to support a bed of mortar and allow for mortar adhesion whilst also offering a clean finish to the verge detail. Left hand verge is illustrated.
Never use a plain tile undercloak with interlocking tiles. For this reason it is advisable to lay undercloak to a line especially on longer rafters. Eaves and verges detail for a plain clay roof. Carry tiling battens over undercloak and finish flush with verge edge.
