Roof Turbines Not Turning
The faster the wind speed the faster the turbine rotates.
Roof turbines not turning. In the photo below the vent on the left wasn t level. Do you see anything else that s wrong in the photo. It doesn t take much wind to turn your turbine roof vents. There may also be something near or in the vent that is stopping it from turning.
If they spin freely but just sit there when on your roof i d say they aren t level. If the vents are blocked by insulation boxes or. Since they are only 4 years old i m guessing they were replacements so maybe the wrong ones were installed not all turbines work with all roof pitches or these just haven t been leveled correctly. Climb up into your attic and look at the vents from the inside.
Walking around my soffits yes i do have soffit vents and from the attic i can see sunlight in. The hot air is exiting the roof through the louvers at each end of the roof as they were designed to do. Crooked turbine vent small. Just hot air rising out of one will make it spin.
When they re not installed level they don t turn. 2 of my 3 turbine vents on my roof won t turn unless there s a stronger wind. The new turbine needs hot air to flow out to turn the impellers. Also barely using my finger of course they spin freely no noise etc.
The one thing i ll mention is that turbine vents need to be installed perfectly level. I ve gone on the roof and white lithium greased both and but a level on them and they are pretty close to level. Examine the turbine from the exterior from the roof. If the wind is blowing and catches the fins then the turbines act like giant vacuum pumps sucking hundreds of cubic feet of hot air out of an attic per minute.
If yours aren t turning it s time to lubricate or replace entirely. Do i have a low pressure system. You can usually adjust the level by turning the turbine body. The maximum roof pitch is almost always printed on the box label.
Finally be sure the ball bearings are permanently lubricated and sealed. You may have to replace the turbine with an electric fan type of ventilator. Not all turbines will fit all roof pitches. The turbines are adjustable so that the spinning part is level even though the roof is slanted.
Nothing is more bothersome in the middle of a. My attic turbines are not turning step 1.
